[ADC-Ext 1.0.5] Hiding users

Post by Pretorian » Wed Sep 08, 2010 10:23 pm

In pre-BASE 1.0, ADC allowed users to be hidden. I don't remember who or why it was removed (arne later recognized it as an error, in any case). Anyway... There would be two ways to hide users; to use the old INF field 'HI' with HI1 to indicate 'hidden'. Or, we could use the CT flag for 64 for it.

The former would allow some backwards compatibility but the latter would be more clean. I'm inclined on leaning toward the latter... What do you think?

(Yeah, I don't _really_ see a reason for 'hidden users' but I know people want it.)

Hiding is great if you want to be a lurker without people knowing you are lurking :P

We've been gradually removing support for pre-BASE features from DC++ anyway haven't we, so no reason to keep INF HI around?

Actually, I have a semi-valid reason...

I've been planning to one day write a GUI for Netfraction that logs into the hub like any other user, and uses user commands as much as possible to interact with the hub.

It would be preferable to hide this admin user.

I agree that this option should be in ADC. I also think that CT 64 would be a good solution so i agree with Pret.
