For starters this is mainly a "note to self" kind of post.
For starters mailing is not possible in any way, neither through smtp (since all outbound connections are blocked, excluding internal database connections) nor through the php mail functions. (earlier it was possible to use cron job to get around this, but that too has been taken away due to abuse).
Secondly apache can't write to files in the project web directories but only under the projects persistent directory which means that symbolic links have been put in place.
Are there any other problems that have appeared after the switch and need solving?

Re: About Sourceforge...
To-do:
- replace preg_replace with str_replace whenever possible
- make search url contain the search terms (thus allowing users to link to certain searches)
- test search with pagination, I have a hunch this could be broken
- make main site search cover posted news as well
- fix link inconsistencies
- upgrade phpBB, and take backups
