Directory file Grouping and User Exclusive folders.

Post by djblueshift » 2004-02-18 23:36

01 Directory File Grouping:
A lot of times, some users have files in a certain directory, say "new_RjsI_hOm" and several users have this directory. In this directory there are files, say "om01.mp3, om02.mp3, etc." Now say there's an exclusive file called om03.mp3 and it's not in new_RjsI_hOm but some users have it.
Other users may also have om01.mp3 and om02.mp3 but not in a directory.
My suggestion is to have expandable directories in the search. This way it's easier to compare which files you want to get for a complete set of "om" mp3s. This would also let you compare users with and without slots and files you want easier.
The single files would still be listed though.

Diagram:

Code: Select all

filename                                    type                  user
[+]new_RjsI_hOm                              dir                   tes1
 |---om01                                    mp3
 |---om02                                    mp3
om03                                         mp3                   nak
om01                                         mp3                   tes1
om02                                         mp3                   tes1

02 Exclusive Folders
Probably been asked for before but this would just let you maintain a list of users that you want to have access to only certain folders.

This should be coming with file hashing (0.307). Groups the same files together under one download link.

Exactly. Just to repeat it: Hashing enables this feature, but there's no code for it in CVS yet, though there may be by the time 0.307 is released.

blueshift, this will only ever happen (in DC++) for files that have the same file hash - grouping files based only on their name and size matching is... misleading, because they could be different rips/encodes, or one might have been corrupted. With hashes, it's clear when either of those situations presents itself.

As far as your second request, this isn't really compatible with DC's notion of public lists of shared files. It's similar to both the per-hub-share requests and the occasional request for people to ban specific users from downloading from them... I don't think this request can go anywhere - sorry.
