Download manager?

I know I'm prolly gonna get flamed by posting this and using certain banned words..

I'd like dc++ (this great piece of extraordinary software) to be able to manage the download/upload queue.. Of What to download from who and which files are basically the same. A bit like (here it comes) Kazaa, but sligtly more like GetRight. So you would be able to see what files are queued because the user has exited and which files are incomplete and so on...

I searched thru the forum and tried to find a topic about this and failed. I cannot believe noone has been missing this feature but me.

Oh well, here are some more specific details of what a user might want to do:
- see what files are waiting, e.g. for the user to come back to the hub (at the moment they are invisible)
- manipulate the waiting queue (e.g. remove files of users that aren't coming back)
- change the source for a download (if another user has the same file)
- pause/continue a download
- prioritize downloads (?)

are there more features one could add to this?

oh, I forgot, :

- a feature to see the IP-addresses of the other users in the queue (both upping and dling) would be great =D

That would be the download queue then.?

That is what the download queue does manipulate and intelligently find other users, so you don't have to remove files.

Yes, the download queue does this already.

- pause/continue a download
- prioritize downloads (?)

Right click file in download queue and set priority including pause.

Have I missed something..

Hmmm... now what makes me think you have'nt used DC++ to it's full extent.

How about the added feature where the programme downloads files? Or how about it lets you chat to other people? Wouldn' t those be really great features?

Can you please just look at the features that already exist, before coming in here to suggest "new" features? Would that be too much to ask?

Your enthusiasm is commendable, although a bit misguided.

You're not going to get flamed or banned. However, it does look an awful lot like you requested the "Download Queue" feature, which DC++ already has. If the feature in your head is not the same, mind clarifying what exactly you want that's different?

Why would you want this?

But it's already possible with netlimiter

I'd rather advise to use a firewall, that will show you the ip for all connections. Netlimiter uses to much cpu

sry, obviously the "download queue" was too hard to find.. I had to search for it, swear a couple of days about it not having these features and then of course display my stupidity on a bbs to find out my well-planned features weren't new ideas =P

except for the showing IP-address-idea.. I use netlimiter already, that's why I want dc++ to be able to tell me which user has which IP-address so I know which one's to let thru faster and which to hinder a bit. Lite prioritizing. I do have a firewall too, and I would prefer to set the speeds in the firewall, but I haven't found any speed-limitations in iptables.. Do you know if there are any?

I use the netlimiter because if I don't, then the users eat up all of my 20KB/s upstream and I cannot even open google.com. Somehow I now get banned from hubs because I limit the speed so that I can use my internet connection. Do they just guess I'm using it? Or is there a way of finding out who uses netlimiters?

I hope for your hubs' users' sake you don't ban me, I have quote the queue for my stuff...

As for opers reading this forum; even if they do, it doesn't matter, someone found out I had a netlimiter before I posted it here.. It's a damn shame people ban just because I use a netlimiter.. Just because I want to be able to use the connection myself doesn't mean that people should be deprived of large collections of music, does it?

you may want to limit traffic on all ports except known ones (http/ftp) to get the best results. this works a lot less comfortably than with netlimiter exactly because this box doesn't know which traffic is which.
