Older Versions Better???

I loaded v.691 into my new computer and have found it to be "fussy". I'm not a guru so I need something that works without me knowing how to re-write the thing.
Some of the members in one of my favorite hubs swear by the older versions. What version do you guys like?

I'm fairly new to P2P, are there any other type file sharing protocols that I might research? My daughter uses Limewire but half the stuff she downloads isn't what it's supposed to be or is infected.
I'm into audiobooks and blues music. Thanks.
