search mode won't work

Hello,
I'm trying to search for a particular artist and DC++ says it's searching but it can't find anything. I'm hooked to about 8 hubs and I get nothing. When I look at the "shared" column on the public hubs screen it says 0B. I'm thinking what I'm sharing isn't registering. Maybe I should rehash, but I don't know how to do that. Any suggestions?

The newish format for the public hublist includes several columns that aren't yet supported by the public hublist owners. That column is one of them, you can disregard it.

I went into settings and turned my connection from active to passive. that seemed to work. but why doesn't active work anymore? it use to. I had a friend put a router on my computer so i could hook my wife's computer to the interenet. that is probably why it isn't working. but i'm not computer savvy enough to figure out how to go back to active and get around the tcp and udp thing. can anyone spell it out for me?
one last thing. is a passive connection just as good as an active connection?

No. Passive mode restricts you from downloading from other passive mode users and reduces the number of search results you get. It is a strain on the hub owners bandwidth and generally the wrong way to go. Especially if you have a router and can therefore configure it to work in active mode.

Start with http://www.portforward.com/ and look up your router. Find the DC++ guide and see what you can get done.

The variables you will be working with and should relay to us if you get stuck are:
1. Public IP - from http://www.whatismyip.com/
2. Local/Private IP - Start -> Run -> CMD [OK]. Then type IPCONFIG and press enter.
3. The port number you have chosen to use for your DC++. (Choose any number between 1024 and 65000)

Those are the variables that will be required by your router's settings in order to create a 'port forwarding' or 'virtual server' rule.

The last step is to put your public IP and port number in their respective boxes in DC++ settings.
