I'd really like the Magnet-Link feature. You know, like I click a link in my favorite browser and dc++ starts looking for the right sources by itself.

I'm not aware of any site that has magnets with bitprints (sha1.tth) or tiger:tree hashes in them, so support is of limited use right now.

I'm trying to think of a nice way to tell the user that the magnet doesn't have any hashes usable on the DC network - many users may not know that magnet links can have such varied contents. A fair number of people never seem to notice the status bar's log messages...

Well, there is the Rev connect magnet site, but i don't know how well that works, if at all. But, i know there are magnetlink sites with tth's in planning..

Magnet URI support is available in czdc++ if you want to try it.

well, actually i live in a dorm, with dc being our main filesharing network. when somebody releases somting it's usually announced in a forum, and in would be great if we could just link the file(s) directly. i think it would be hard to persuade 1000 people to use another client, when dc++ works fine

Like I said, they don't have bitprints or tree:tiger hash links in them. Witness the glory - SHA1 and kzhash only.

How do you tell the user that the magnet link they've passed to DC++ is worthless and has no tth root hash in it?

Well sorry, i thought that wasn't such a big problem, as other applicatons like Shareaza can handle a bunch of different hash-types.
As I tried to say, the lack of tth-magent sites doesn't bother me. But maybe with dc++ supporting magnets, some tth magnet sites will pop up...

It should simply show up with an error message in the status bar, but I doubt most people would notice and come here complaining.

Maybe we should chase after liny and ask him to submit a magnet support patch.

Absolutely not, I'm rewriting it properly.

I was thinking about spawning a new dialog:

if good:
" hash, filename details
( ) Search for magnet link
( ) Download magnet link

OK | Cancel"

or some failure message. Magnet has a lot of complexity to it, I don't think I'll implement everything in it.
