how to make a private hub with user name and password

I want to start a hub.

I want to make it a Private hub with user name and password entry only.

Which script do I need or do I need any?

I have not installed the hub software yet.

I have neo-modus and Ptokax ver 323 hub software. Which one should I use?

Which one is easier to use when starting off?

You don't need any script: just valid the checkbox "Only Allow Register" in the "Security" tabsheet on the Neo Modus Hub Sotware.

You can use one or the other.

I think NM DC is a little better to start of, a lot of scripts are developped in VB Script. If you are more experimented, you can use the Ptokax Soft which uses the LUA script engine. Scripts are ported in lua now. Check respective web site or this forum to access scripts.

Checking that "Only Allow Register" option works for us too. But how to add new guys/gals to the hub?

This is how we did it:

2 hubservers, 1 DB (if I learnt how to query the other hub for a user, I might've done that too).

Registered user comes in and the 1st hub checks to see if the dude is in the db. If yes, they are forwarded on. If no, they stay where they are (and u can do all sorts of tricks like booting ppl every 10 mins to stop a second hub from forming).

In our 2nd hub, we can set passwords, and add names to a DB so the 1st hub knows to forward reg'd users.

You can use the 1st hub to chat to potential members, confirm they meet your rules and filter out lamers. If a dude breaks the rules, delete their reg (which if you script it right, it should also remove em from the DB).

The db is a great way of doin a fast search, so the name lookup & forwarding is quick. We orginally had this on a k6-233 with 128meg of RAM. It has since changed. At all times, the redirecting was quick enuf that users did not complain (and most do not even notice). We did have other probs (like router issues etc), but they were never related to this config.

But how to attract newbies to your hub? Well, I will leave that to you to devise. If you require script samples and workarounds PM me.

Maybe you should use some other hub the the neo-modus dchub v2 because it is as stated on the webpage only for developers.
