Compression ratio -column

Post by YaRi » 2003-11-17 17:31

It'd be nice to see compression ratio for transferred files in upload logs. How much was saved by compression and even a realtime ratio for files being transferred.

Maybe a stupid question in your opinion, but why?

Because some people like myself and YaRi are stat freaks...love to see numbers about stuff. Wouldnt be that hard to incorperate....although should be able to turn it off for those who don't care.

Exactly :D
Also, I'd like to see how effective this compression is and then I could promote this new feature / client to other users also :)

I agree with wanting to easily see stats on compression. I've been wondering if the compression might be slowing down a lot of transfers on my campus hub, but I havn't had any time to perfom accurate test runs. I havn't seen downloads from my campus hub in the past few days go above 8MB/s, whereas I would usually get 9-10MB/s, and sometimes peak at 11MB/s.

Oh, I guess the compression is already shown in the progress bar.
This is from 0.302 changelog:
* Multi-shade progress bars to show how much was resumed and compressed

Still, numeric and logged stats would be nice :)

It's in CVS, so it'll be in the next DC++ version. (courtesy of Arne)
