Multi-User Chat/PMs

Here's an idea that I haven't seen proposed yet. What about a command to INVITE additional users into a Private Chat/PM?

I don't kow whether this would have to be just users all in the same hub, or if it could include users in other hubs as well (which would be nice).

Any thoughts?

Why not instead use an IM program? Or talk in main? Or create a hub of your own and invite those who you want to talk to?

Ah wait, you said multi. Ok, in that case it's simple, use a Chatroom in the hub, in for instance YnHub.

This seems a little more likely to happen in ADC than NMDC. At least, the infrastructure for that is in place - announcing client IPs in the protocol, and making the client/server protocol easy to extend.

It seems to belong a bit more on the hub side than the client side. I'm not sure how the GUI would look, and IM programs would always do do it better than we could.

Programming's not my area, so I really don't know the differences between NMDC and ADC.

It just seemed to me that it could be built on the basis that the hubs and PM are. I didn't know that YnHub had the ability to do rooms within main chat.

I suppose that you're right in that it may be more Hubsoft-related, than client-related.

I was thinking, though, that if it was Hubsoft-related, that it would then restrict attendees to being in the same hub.

Am I correct in understanding that many of the commands in DC are based on IRC? Isn't there a similar fuinctionality in IRC to this? (I don't know, as I don't use IRC), but that's the response I got when I proposed the IGNORE function - which I still *desperately* wish would get implemented (Bug #190!)

I suppose this could get blown into more of a full IM program, but one contained wiithin DC - maybe based off the Favorite Users list.

Just some ideas to think on

But, I don't want that.

If DC++ did what you want, it would have to send the PMs through the hub itself - one to each "subscribed" user. And each remote user would have to have to do the same when it responded.
