UPnP support in DC++?

Post by sokk » 2004-07-11 16:44

I just downloaded the latest version of Azureus, and was surprised when I saw that it registered a port on my UPnP-router. All done automatically.

If we speak of the security issues regarding this.. the security is better than port forwarding, because the port is only opened when DC++ is open.

UPnP support in DC++ would seriously rock! It was a bitch getting the router password (I'm on ADSL) from my provider, and I consider myself pretty computer literate. All this, only to do port forwarding. Adding UPnP-support would remove these steps, and everything would "Just Work" â„¢

Expanding the user base using "Active mode" would definitely make the Direct Connect network a better place.

This has been requested 4 or 5 times in the past. I don't have a UPnP capable router (Smoothwall 1.0), so it'd be rather problematic to program and test this feature.

(nobody has put this into the new tracker yet.)

I've tried to play some with this.

- the application I made failed to run if the .NET framework wasn't installed

that's a bad thing

- UPnP only works on XP, as far as I know

I don't have XP, nor an UPnP capable router, so I can't test much more
