Disgruntled user. Thoughts?

I received an email from a guy who claimed that DC++ deleted a lot of his files. I know of at least one other person (joakim_tosteborg) who also received this email. I decided to respond, and here's how it went:

your f..king program just delited 17.18gb from my computer!
what make you think you can do that! almoust al my sci-fi,
and i want it back!

DC++ does not randomly delete files.

Can you please explain what makes you think it was DC++ that deleted the files. What actions were you carrying out when you noticed this? What version of DC++ are you using?

it asked if i wanted too overwrite the previous version, and afterwards my innbox was gone, all the enterprise and babylon 5 episodes was gone.

i am not using any dc++verison now!!!

What version were you using before? What version did you try to install?
The DC++ installer will only overwrite the application binaries (the application itself, the debugging info and a few more files). It will not touch any other files. In fact, it will actually back up your settings files if you tell it to.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "my innbox". Can you please clarify this.

i was installing the leatest, dont know what version i was using before. i dont care hwat dc++ only overwrites or not, my innbox disappeared!
"my innbox" is shareing folder.
newer mind, i`m using emule and BitTorrent now.

Thank you for explaining what you meant by "innbox". I have been involved with DC++ for almost two years and I have never heard of a single case of DC++ inadvertantly deleting files. Also, deleting files from the Shared Directories would serve no logical purpose.

But as you say, you are no longer using it and going with emule and BT so I guess it's a moot point. Good luck with those tools.

Considering he's norweigan, probably not.. =)

If he didn't type like a drunkard and obviously has no idea what he's talking about, it might have been worth following up.. but since nobody else has noticed this, i think not.

I was willing to discuss it with him and help troubleshoot. Who knows, maybe I could have helped him recover the files. But he doesn't seem to be answering any of the questions I ask him and just seems to be argumentative.

Contradictory too. Firstly he says "never mind" and then he gets offended when I say never mind too. :sigh:

well, doing uninstall and selecting yes on "remove settings etc" will remove the entire dc++ installation directory, including any subdirs with files in them...

Uninstall? Why would anyone do that?

According to what he said though, he wasn't uninstalling.

I don't think I'll bother responding any more. He seems to want someone to argue with/blame rather than a possible solution.

I think you did the right thing. Even when moving a directory to another directory, I don't think you could get this kind of problem.
