to legalize piracy or not?
You must come to a realization that just about everything we do for our enjoyment is considered illegal. now why is cigarette, alcohol legalized thought it kill million of lives every year! is it because money is more important then anything else at the suffering of others. dont you guy see the real picture now? I'm getting tired of society treating us as a low scumbag who steal from other in order to enjoy something. we are not stealing, its sharing something we already have, goddamnit. This is not right, and i will even risk my life to change it for the better of the world. its corrupt, its mess up and everyday that I think about it, I just crinch!

How can you compare file sharing to cigarettes, alcohol and lesbians / gays. There is absolutely no link between those.
When smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol you harm yourself, you buy it and it is your own problem.
And whats that one about lesbians and gays? Why in hell should it be illegal being gay? Its their own business. Then masturbating should be illegal too!
And now about us, the file sharers. We do illegal activity. No question about that.
We are sharing stuff than is protected by copyright laws. Its almost the same thing as stealing in a shop.
The only thing that differs is that it is much more indirect, you are not stealing right there inside the shop, but miles away in front of your pc. You dont have to enter the shop.
Therefore you dont feel guilty. Because you dont think about it. You dont think about doing something wrong.
But everytime you are downloading a movie, its almost as you were stealing it.
But i know that it is not exactly the same thing. Because you wouldnt buy all the stuff you are downloading.
But be honest with yourself. You would go much more often go to a store and buy your cd's and movies there instead of downloading them if you handnt the possibility of downloading them.
Its a fact that i used to buy cd's and a movie once in a while, which i dont do anymore.
Just dont legimitate your action by shouting out that it is not worse than other thing. Perhaps it is not, but it is bad. And you cant make bad things good by comparing them to worse things. It is still bad. And it is illegal.
And dont think you could ever make it legal (at least file sharing as we do, without paying anything), because it wont ever happen. You wouldnt allow others to come to your house and do whatever they wanted with your stuff either, as the industry wouldnt allow us to do the same with their products.
Do you see my point?
Either accept that you do illegal things when file sharing or dont do it. Dont calm your inproper conscience betraying yourself.
Dont missunderstand me, i am not one of these guys from the industry, im just a file sharer like you, and i like it, and i will keep on doing it. But i am conscient about that it is illegal and not right. And i see the industry's point too. What we do is not good if you look at it more objectively.
Think about it.
Enjoy sharing.

Re: to legalize piracy or not?
OK. I'm well rested(ish) and have had some caffeine and can therefore think in all possible orientations.
A lot of what you are talking about can be found in a thread called What do you think of piracy? including some rambling by yourself.
Begin deconstruction, sentence by sentence! Warning: I may be sarcastic. It's nothing personal. Just the fact that I find some of what you say ridiculous and laughable and therefore can't take it seriously.
I'm not sure what recreational activities you are into, but there are very few things I enjoy that are illegal. You must have a twisted sense of fun.
So do cars. What's your point?
Why are you even comparing things that kill millions to file sharing?
This line I agree with, but not in this context. Unfortunately to some, the profit margins are more important than human lives. But again, what's the link to file sharing?
What picture? Was there a picture? I must have missed that memo.
The vast majority of society would look at you blankly if you said the word "file sharing", so who specifically is treating you like a scumbag?
As for the stealing thing, you may not be physically stealing from someone, but you are still taking something that doesn't belong to you. In fact, the files may not even "belong" to the person you are getting them from.
HaHaHa! That is a joke, right? Are you trying to tell me that everything you have in your share is legitimately owned by you? Puh-lease!
Oh dear. You really need some perspective in your life. There are a lot more worthy causes to martyr yourself over. But file sharing? I will respond to that with an eye roll:
I understand that what I am doing is morally ambiguous, and if you thought about it logically, you would too. But again, perspective and logic are clearly not present in this post.
Don't make out like you are some sort of crusade, because you are *not*. And also, when I look at your lack of spelling, punctuation and grammar, it makes me "crinch" too.
(that was a cheap shot. Apologies)
Channel your angry smilies towards a more worthy cause.
What exactly is your obsession with homosexuality? You also mentioned it in the thread I mentioned at the top. The theme running through my response seems to be "What the hell does this have to do with file-sharing?". All I ask for is logic. :sigh:
And what exactly do you mean by "they are legal now"?
Are you still on the gay thing? Are you comparing me being accepted by society as gay, to me being accepted by society as a file sharer? WTF?
Yeah, fight the powers! How dare they try to stop us taking morally ambiguous actions.
Once we've done with that we should start a crusade against the evil bastards who would try supress my rights to rape and murder. Viva la revolution!
This much illogic makes my poor brain hurt.

If you get a response that appears to be by someone with a command of the English language, I'll be extremely amazed.
He's not even a particularly amusing troll. I haven't seen one mention of OOG, Meept, Portman, or Grits. Just under-educated white-trash non-thought.

lets face it
The only people who are really bothered about the legalities of file sharing are the rich gits who fear losing a little bit of money from a small group of people who at the end of the day would not go out and buy half the things they download if the service was not available - so they would not get any money for it anyway!
But then this is just my view and I will probably be laughed off in a little while.

Golf is not a sport
It is an addiction created by the rich for the rich
But if you are REALLY stoopid
You could get addicted too!

Sam, it's painfully obvious to me that when you see a challenge (such as: "respond intelligently to an intelligent response to your post") you simply run away instead of rising to the occasion.
It would have been very easy (and still is) to disprove my attack on you intelligence by simply responding in a coherent manner to TheParanoidOne, who had a legitimate response to your post.
