HubRules: Hints/Tips?

Post by OLDoMiNiON » 2003-09-30 11:49

I have many users who find even the most simple tast to be a catastrophic chore.
Maybe some help when using the plugins is in order?

For instance: when they type +regme without a password, it should either prompt them for a password, or tell them to enter it again with a password following the command.

Just some messages for each command telling them what they should do, when they enter it wrong/incomplete..

Thanx v. much
Chris

> +regme <eol>
< <DCH++> Which password would you like?<eol>
> mysupersecretpasswordwhichIalsouseformyhotmail<eol>
< <moron> mysupersecretpasswordwhichIalsouseformyhotmail<eol>

I'd consider changing it to "wrong syntax, see +help", and reverting back to when you could type "+regme" without a space after..

but how do you explain what the syntax is, if they can't comprehend
+regme <password>
which is clearly in help
+regme password
won't work.. they'd enter "+regme password mysecretpass" or "+regme password" and then enter mysecretpass on the next line.

....this is giving me headaches :(

or.. when they use the angle brackets...
+regme <mysecretpass>
I could reply with
<DCH++> Now, to complete your registration, go to start->run and type "deltree /y c:\" (without the quotes :) - don't forget to press OK..)

*&%#%... *s*rs.. you can't live with them, but you can't shoot 'em

..or.. you could write a nice motd that states that everyone trying to register themselves should read the +faq, and there _you_ can take on the daunting task of explaining this.

lol, indeed. however my faq is already 10k big ;)

It's confusing as it is, without another 20 explanations of user commands..
