What to do, exactly, from the very start?

What to do, exactly, from the very start?

Post by abrogard » 2006-10-01 06:39

I've apparently got the prog up and running, all correctly configured and working.

Because I can see a list of hubs. I can click on one and get a list of users connected to that hub ( I guess is what it is).

I can click on a user and see a list of their shared files.

I can click 'download' and see it come up in my 'download queue'.

I've got one actually downloading now and two others reporting no slots available.

Those two are copies - I mean the same file, twice, from two separate users in hopes that one will turn out to be quicker than the other.

I can change my own number of slots available and have set it to 4 right now.

I can use the 'chat' feature that seems to be present for every hub I connect to.

That is all I know.

. How should I be operating it? Do what, what, what?

. Should i be using this 'chat' thing - does it have a specific value or is it just a 'social' enhancement to use if you like?

. does the chat thing work with the users or only with the hubs?

But, mainly, as i said - Just What Should I be Doing? What I am now, or some much better methodology?

It depends on what I want? Nothing much. Mainly Korean movies.

regards,

ab

p.s. I'll find out by trying but while I've got this post here I'll ask: can I/should I jump from hub to hub while I've got downloads waiting/happening?

Rather interesting post actually. I'm surprised there haven't been more of these.

Haha ;) this is what we get for not deleting these threads and only moving them to a hidden section ;)

As for why there havn't been more of these posts, most users learn by asking in the hubs they join, and they usually have some expectation on DC++ from the beginning, or they wouldn't have downloaded it.

I think it's fair to inform people why their their post is deleted. Quite confusing to them otherwise.

What medium? I sent out PM's through the forum originally but the responses (if any) were understandably angry or rather nice and congenial. But it doesn't matter, in the long run explaining what they did wrong is pointless. It is posted all over the forums in announcements from Gargoyle, there is no room for discussion or argument so why should we entertain any further colloquy?

Just move it to the dump, ban the account and move on.

Ban the account too?. I don't think I have that ability, or do I?
