How can I decompress downloaded tracks?

I have downloaded many mp3s but I can only listen to the ones which are transmitted at 198 kbps for instance and not to the ones wich are transmitted at let's say 331 or 582kbps. The latter last shorter than normal. I cannot install Nero and I only have Windows Media Player. Could someone please help me?

I only have Windows Media Player.

There are plenty of free media players available, such as Winamp.

Are you talking about bitrates, or transfer speeds? 320 kbyte/s is the highest bitrate that a MPEG 1 Layer 3 ('mp3') frame can support... so I'm confused.

If pretty GUIs are your thing, use Winamp. I am a Foobar2000 convert myself.

I am new to this so excuse any misguiding. What I'm reffering to is sampling rate. Soon I will try and install Winamp.

I think it will become clear when you install winamp, it has a nice bitrate (24-320 kbit is what mp3 supports) and sampling rate (typically 44 kHz) display.

You may be able to burn them direct from mp3 to the CD. It depends on what program they have installed for CD burning. Do you know what program it is?
