Help on Burning movies!

Hi im fairly new to thi s and i am wondering how to burn movies.

I was told by a friend on dc to get nero, the burning software.
He told me how to burn image files and i understand how to do that.

My question is that i want to know how to burn mpegs andav1's so that they fit on one cd because most of them are over 700 mgb. I think there must be a way for this to happen because when i was burning image files they were in the 800's

AVI's have to be converted to mpg (TMPGenc is a often used tool, but there's others as well) before they can be burned. http://www.vcdhelp.com is a good site which explain most everything about this subject.

Nero has overburning as a choice. Read the above link and you'll find what you need

Ok that did not tell me anything at all can some just tell me who has experience in burning svcd's how to burn an mpeg on to one cd if th efile is larger than 700mgbytes?

vcdhelp.com didn't help because you didn't read it. Go back to that site and look for the guides for converting MPEG/AVI to SVCD.

An image will fit on one cd because it is an image of one disk.

However when you are converting xvid avi's to vcd or svcd the file size will almost double
depending on the quality you want, any conversion will deteriate the existing quality.
You can use a program such as Guitarm suggested, (TMPGenc) to convert these files and chop them to specific sizes, it can also be done by altering the bitrate of the movie, but with further deteriation.
You will need to study the guides as suggested by Xan to learn exactly as their are many other factors you may need to consider, it is not a topic that can be done holding your hand.

WEll i spent nearly an hour looking ove rthat site and could not understand half of what it was saying because ive never done it before in my life but thanks anyway!

Ps: Are u saying that there is no possible way to fi tit on one cd without deteriateing the quality?????????????

That depends on what quality your after but if you convert a avi-file you can do it in different ways, one way is to do it in the highest possible quality rendering a file which you can cut to fit on a number of cd's (maybe 2 or 3 or 4 if were talkin SVCD).
